Holiday Book List: 2011

I always make my book lists really long and I never have time to read all of the books on it. But I think these six are definitely doable. I love being able to read for pleasure without having to worry about a million other things going on. This is going to be a wonderful holiday :)
1. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: My friend Courtney recommended this, and it’s first on the last because I have to finish it before the movie comes out December 21.
2. Inheritance: Ok, so, I am definitely a nerd, but I got really into the first two books of the Inheritance series. Too bad this book came out like 3 years later and I don’t really even remember what happened…..
3. The Myth Of Choice: My dad bought this book for me randomly and it looks so interesting! I don’t know how he finds them, but he always picks winners :)
4. My Long Trip Home: This one is about a bi-racial journalist and reminds me a lot of The Color of Water, which I read a while ago. I love reading about people’s success stories, and how they overcame the obstacles in their lives. It helps me learn how to deal with the obstacles in mine.
5. The Year of Magical Thinking: Joan Didion just seems like a very interesting person, and I can’t wait to get to know her through this memoir.
6. Democracy: Another reason why Joan Didion is awesome? She writes fiction and nonfiction. I actually started this novel a couple of weeks ago, but abandoned it for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But from what I could tell, it is going to be very good. What is more interesting than a political scandal, anyway?
***Also, the book I want to start reading immediately and throw across the room at the same time: Condi Rice’s No Higher Honor. On the one hand, Condoleeza is an extremely fascinating women, and a great role model for black women. On the other hand, the book is like the size of Order of the Phoenix. But almost certainly not as interesting. How much could she really have to say about eight years??
