The Lacuna

I can’t say it enough: I love Barbara Kingsolver. Her novels are the kind that draw you all the way into the story, so much so that you feel you are one of the characters. They make you think for hours and hours after you are done reading. But one of the things I love the most is her ability to intertwine fiction and history; her novels are some of the most creative stories I’ve ever read, and they weave effortlessly with real events in American history. It’s always nice when authors are politically and socially conscious, and they express it through their writing. Her novels seriously make you re-think everything you’ve ever thought about our government. They expose some real atrocities. The Lacuna, in particular, is tied to historical events. It takes us through the events leading up to WWII to the “domain” of J. Edgar Hoover. Of all of her novels I’ve read, Poisonwood Bible is still my favorite, but The Lacuna definitely runs a close second. I definitely recommend!
